Personal Reflection
Over the past semester I have accomplished many things. I have learned a two new formats in writing, one for Nursing which is APA Format and in Forensics the Journal of forensics guidelines in writing. I have learned how to write a scholarly paper and I am continuing to learn and expand my knowledge every day. I have found that with my brain injury that I have a more difficult time absorbing new information as oppose to my pre-brain injury days. I have realized that I have to work harder to get to where I need to be and I have to try to take appropriate steps to get me in the right direction as I am in charge of my learning. I have started to utilize many of the support services at Trent University. In my 1st semester so far, I have started to develop my personal goals and have started to see the reality of what becoming a nurse really means. I am learning that the power of being a Nurse is more than a profession, it involves more than just learning from a text book and that you must bring your values and all your different hats to your profession to achieve a balance of ethics and caring. This semester I have found my journey a bit difficult as I do not live in Peterborough , I am a bit older than most of the students and I have 4 children to also contend with at home. I have had to learn to try to balance school, work, and home life which has been difficult on good days. I have had a bit of trouble with anatomy as I am trying to find my best learning approach or environment, this is a work in progress. I am really looking forward to next semester and starting placements. I am really confident that I will adapt easily as practical would be one of my strengths. I am also looking forward to the next 4 years at Trent and learning different aspects of nursing and all the different roles nurses play a part in.
